Links and Buttons

For best results, use the following links and buttons within MadCat. Avoid your browser's Back button, as results can be unpredictable.

Links
New Search Reloads the Search page and allows you to begin a new search
Return to Headings Displays the headings from your most recent search
Return to Titles Displays the titles from your most recent search
Search History Displays a record of searches and allows you to reexecute or edit a previous search
UW System Search Allows you to search other UW System library catalogs simultaneously
New in MadCat Allows you to view recently added items
Login / Logout Allows you to access My MadCat Account or place requests for books and other items
My MadCat Account Accesses your patron information, including the list of items you have checked out
Place Requests Allows you to request items that are available, checked out, or renewed (A short video tutorial on Place Requests is available here. Flash Content)
Help Displays information about how to search efficiently, place requests, interpret records, and more
Exit Ends your MadCat session
Buttons
Previous Button Displays the previous page (if the button is "grayed out" there are no previous pages to view)
Next Button Displays the next page (if this button is "grayed out" there are no next pages to view)
Set Limits Button Enables you to narrow your searches by restricting them to certain years, languages, formats or locations within MadCat
Clear Limits Button Deactivates any limits set earlier in your MadCat session
More Info Button Lists the see references, see also references, broader terms and narrower terms related to the heading you selected from a headings list
Brief Button Title, author, publisher, publication date, and location information appear for each item
Full Button Subject headings, tables of contents, notes and summaries appear for items when available (in addition to the information that appears in a brief record)
MARC button Displays item information in MARC coded format (primarily for library staff)
