By Title

Use the Basic search to find a known video title:

1. Type the title in the Search For: box
2. Select Title (begins with) from the Search By: menu
3. Select Video, Slide, Film, etc. from the Quick Limit dropdown menu

Not sure of the exact title? Try the Title Words search instead.

By Topic

Use the Basic search to find a video on a topic:

1. Type the topic in the Search For: box
2. Use quotation marks around phrases, if applicable
3. Select Words Anywhere from the Search By: dropdown menu
4. Select Video, Slide, Film, etc. from the Quick Limit dropdown menu

Popular/Feature

Use the Basic Search to find a popular or feature film:

1. Type "feature films" in the Search For: box (type the quotation marks as shown)
2. Select Subject Heading Words from the Search By: dropdown menu
3. Select Video, Slide, Film, etc. from the Quick Limit dropdown menu

Foreign Language

Begin at the the Basic Search screen to find a foreign language film:

1. Click the Set Limits button
2. On the Set Limits page, look for the Language dropdown menu
3. Select a language, and click the Set Limits button near the bottom of the page. You will return to the Basic Search screen, with your language limit in place. (see example below)
4. Type videorecording in the Search For: box
5. Select Title Words from the Search By: dropdown menu
6. Select Video, Slide, Film, etc. from the Quick Limit dropdown menu

Closed Captioned

Use the Basic Search to find videos that have been closed captioned for the hearing impaired.

1. In the Search For: box combine the word captioned with your topic (see example below)
2. Select Words Anywhere from the Search By: dropdown menu
3. Select Video, Slide, Film, etc. from the Quick Limit menu

By Library

Begin at the Basic Search screen to find all videos in a particular library, or videos about a topic in a particular library:

1. Click the Set Limits button
2. On the Set Limits page, look for the Location dropdown menu.
3. Select a location (for example, College Library), and click the Set Limits button near the bottom of the page. You will return to the Basic Search screen, with your location limit in place. (see example below)
4. Type videorecording in the Search For: box OR type a topic (if you wish to limit your results to a particular topic in that library)
5. Select Title Words from the Search By: dropdown menu if you entered the term videorecording. Select Words Anywhere if you typed a topic.
6. Select Video, Slide, Film, etc. from the Quick Limit dropdown menu

By Library Collection

Use the Guided Search screen to find videos in a particular collection within a library. First you will need to find the specific location code for the collection. (To limit by library only, and not within a library, see By Library in the table of contents at the left.)

To find all the videos in College Library's Open Book Collection:

To find all the videos in Steenbock Library's reserves collection:

Note: There is no space after the comma in the location code. Select "as a phrase" in the box to the right of the location code.
